A Few of My Favorite Things

Hi Friends,

Today marks day one of my vacation! I leave for Europe in a couple hours, and I’ve grappled with the “to post or not to post” issue while I’m away. On the one hand, I want to keep in touch with you, but on the other hand, maybe a vacation from everything will do me (and my writing) good. So, on that note, I’ve settled on the latter, and My Infinity Game will be on summer recess until I return after Labor Day.

How will you get your MIG fix in the meantime?

Well, I’ve selected a few of my favorite things for you to enjoy while I’m away:

1.     Comedian Mike Birbiglia’s commentary on sympathy cards. One of my absolute favorites from him.

If you find this funny, I suggest downloading his album, Two Drink Mike, for more entertainment. (If you don’t find this funny, I’ll try to refrain from all future references to hotdogs holding up lemonade stands at gunpoint.)

2.     On a more serious note, check out this post from Gretchen Rubin of The Happiness Project. I really like the insights she draws from these micro-stories, and learning to readjust my own perception of “main characters” in real life was an eye opening experience.

3.     I write for actor Rainn Wilson’s website, SoulPancake.com, but this isn’t a plug for the site. One of my fellow SP writers, wrote a great article for Modern Love in the New York Times titled, About That Rustle in the Bushes, which should really be called “When Your Father Google-Stalks Your Boyfriends”. I think that’s probably enough of a hook, but if you have a helicopter parent or if you ever caught your mother eavesdropping on your phone conversations when you were in high school (true story), then this article is for you. And if not, you should still read it. It’s good stuff and great parent humor. (Thought I’d give you a break from -lessness for a change.)

As always, thank you very much for reading My Infinity Game, and please let me know if you have any thoughts on the new site, suggested post topics……or very last minute restaurant recommendations in Positano, Ravello and Capri.

Talk to you in September,

Lauren

Have a wonderful time, Lauren!! I have been enjoying your blog very much. The memories of your mom are so bittersweet…after all, I remember her since third grade! I remember learning to write “cursive” with her that year, and I recall her lovely handwriting with the back slant to it.I caught chicken pox from Linda in elementary school… and I remember her and her family from way back when… Maurie, Shirley,Judy, Richard…all so young and so pretty. Keep up the good work, Lauren! You are a very gifted young lady!
